Summary Reader Response Draft #4

According to the review by Cowton (2021), the Yeedi Vac Station is a reliable robot vacuum with the ability to self-empty its bin into the charging station. The Yeedi application makes setting up the robot plain and easy. Change of cleaning schedules and locating the robot can be done through the application. The first few cleaning cycles automatically map out the house floor plan. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, the robot returns to the charging station where the station empties the robot’s dustbin into its dust bag. Some factors of the Yeedi Vac that outdo its competitors are its three levels of suction power (standard (600Pa), max (1,500Pa), and max+ (3,000 Pa) and the function for mopping the floor. Unfortunately, the Yeedi Vac Station robot is inferior compared to the Samsung Jetbot AI+ because it uses visual-SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) for its navigation system and its flaw in design in when it comes to vacuum efficiency and mopping (Cowton, 2021).

One problem with the Yeedi Vac Robot is that it uses visual-SLAM as its navigation system, where the camera is the only sensor. This makes it hard for the robot to define distance (Mathworks, n.d.). This flaw requires customers to take precautions to prevent damage to their household items. As Red (2021) stated, the Yeedi vacuum robot tends to drag small objects around and bump hard into things. A solution to this is to use LiDAR (Light detection and ranging) SLAM instead. LiDAR uses laser sensors, proving to be more effective in providing precise distance measurements than a camera sensor (Mathworks, n.d.). The Samsung Jetbot AI+ is one robot vacuum that uses LiDAR-SLAM to navigate. By integrating LiDAR with 3D object recognition with AI, the Samsung Jetbot AI+ is capable to provide an accurate map of the house and perform object recognition to avoid household items (Samsung, n.d.).

Another problem with the Yeedi vacuum robot is that despite its strong suction power of up to 3,000Pa, the Samsung Jetbot AI+ does the cleaning job better when both are compared vacuuming on a carpeted surface. The function for Samsung Jetbot AI+ to optimize its suction power up to 30AW (1,560Pa) by detecting the type of platform and amount of dust on the platform (Samsung, n.d.) is one of the factors that outperforms the Yeedi Vac robot. Another factor is the high-efficiency brush roller of the Samsung Jetbot AI+. The unique design of the brush roller equips anti-static fibres with self-cleaning extractors that avoid tangles and enables greater contact with the carpeted surface (Keng, 2022).

One feature that the Samsung JetBot AI+ does not possess is the mopping function. The Yeedi Vac provides a decent mopping function that can be enabled by clipping a mopping pad under the robot and equipping a water tank that comes with it (Cowton, 2021). However, the mopping function causes further limitations rather than being beneficial. Despite an empty tank, the weight of the tank causes imbalance, leading to misalignment between the Yeedi Vac station and the Yeedi Vac Robot after a mopping session. This affects the self-emptying function and preventing the battery to recharge (Cowton, 2021). Furthermore, the Yeedi Vac has the potential to smear its damp mop across the carpet due to the lack of object recognition function (Cowton, 2021).

In conclusion, the Samsung JetBot AI+ provides better reliability when it comes to its navigation system and greater vacuum efficiency as compared to the Yeedi Vac Station. With these superior features, the Samsung JetBot AI+ would be a better value for money.
